Pozzotive CMU Block
Kingston Block & Masonry Supply is proud to introduce its
proprietary new green building product, Pozzotive™ CMU Block.
Manufactured in the region using recycled post-consumer materials
from the region, it maximizes the product’s impact on LEED certification.
Pozzotive™, developed by the principals of Kingston Block, is a
high- performance white pozzolan made from post-consumer waste glass,
which can be used as a replacement for up to 30% of both white and
grey Portland cement in concrete and cement products. Replacing a
portion of the Portland cement component in CMU Block with
Pozzotive™ yields a better quality product that is
environmentally sound.

SIGNIFICANT LEED & ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
· Manufactured in the Region with 20% or more post-consumer
recycled material from the region, Pozzotive™ CMU Block
contributes to maximum material and resource LEED points (4 points).
· Significant Energy Savings vs. Cement Production—cement
manufacturing involves mining and transporting raw materials to the
cement plant and then crushing and firing them in a kiln. One ton of
Pozzotive™ used to replace one ton of Portland cement eliminates
these steps and on average saves the Btu equivalent of approximately
2,375 pounds of western coal.
· Reduction in CO2 Emissions—the combustion of
fossil fuels used to generate heat in Portland cement kilns releases
large quantities of carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas that traps
heat energy in the atmosphere and is suspected of causing global
warming. According to the United States EPA, every ton of Portland
cement produced releases + / - one ton of CO2. Therefore, for each
ton of Pozzotive™ that is used, approximately one ton of CO2 is
saved from being released into the atmosphere.
· Saves Valuable Landfill Volume in major metro areas
through recycling glass and reducing fossil fuel emissions produced
by the trucks and equipment used to transport and compact landfill garbage.
CONSISTENT, VIBRANT COLOR
A White Pozzolan—the brightness of Pozzotive™
(77-80) allows for the replacement not only for grey cement but for
white cement as well, critical in architectural block requiring
consistent and vibrant color. The only white pozzolan made from
post-consumer waste glass.
EXCEPTIONAL STRENGTH AND DURABILITY
Exceeds Design Standards—Pozzotive™ meets and
exceeds the requirements of industry tests including ASTM C-618 for
pozzolans and ASTM C-1157 for blended hydraulic cement.
Pozzotive™ has a consistent chemical and color composition,
while containing no contaminants harmful to concrete quality such as carbon.
Tighter Physical Composition—typically, CMU Block
contains small voids which allow for the permeation of water and
chemicals. Unlike common Portland cement, Pozzotive™ particles
are smaller and minimize the size of these voids, reducing the
permeability of water and chemical attack on the block.
